MOSCOW, 13 Oct – PRIME. Almost all countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have agreed to switch to paying for gas in rubles, Kazakhstan can join paying in national currencies, Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister for Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, told RIA Novosti.
EAEU reorients energy industry to the east amid crisis in Europe
“According to mutual settlements for gas within the framework of the Eurasian Union, some countries have agreed among themselves to pay for Russian gas only in Russian rubles, Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan agree with this. Kazakhstan is now thinking in this direction, they also want to trade in national currencies,” — Kozhoshev said on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week.
“I think that over time, trade in national currencies will gain momentum. The Russian ruble will strengthen, as mutual settlements in national currencies will increase in all areas of countries where Russian raw materials and gas are supplied,” the minister added.
Russian Energy Week takes place in Moscow from 12 to 14 October. RIA Novosti acts as an information partner of the forum.
