AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) on Xbox, official support from Microsoft
It was in the air, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) also arrives on Xbox. Microsoft has in fact implemented (albeit in preview) the technology in the Game Development Kit (GDK) intended for video game developers. The good news that support does not interestWindows only or the latest Xbox Series X | Yes, but also the old Xbox One according to Jason Ronald, director of Microsoft’s Xbox program management.
We talked in depth about AMD’s FSR technology in this article. In short, Nvidia’s DLSS-like lens: Allow games to achieve higher frame rates or resolutions / details while preserving image quality as much as possible.
FSR, a differenza del DLSS, agnostic and open, so it also works on GPUs other than AMD’s, such as Nvidia’s GeForces, and even on older architectures. The landing on PlayStation 5 is therefore technically feasible, even if neither Sony nor AMD have still exposed themselves on the matter.
So expect a constant spread of FSR on PC and consoles starting in the next few months. Meanwhile, after the first seven PC games with technology support, FidelityFX Super Resolution also arrived on DOTA 2 with the latest update distributed by Valve. AMD cited a list of over 40 partners that includes EA, Ubisoft, Hello Games and Gearbox, but also the landing in games like Resident Evil Village, Far Cry 6 and Baldur’s Gate 3 just to name a few.
