AMD launches Radeon R7 250X

It is blowing up a storm in the graphics card market and soon Nvidia will launch Geforce GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750 – two graphics cards for the lower price range. To counter the oncoming newcomers, AMD is reintroducing a graphics circuit that was previously thought to have gone out of production: Cape Verde.

The result is the Radeon R7 250X, which has completely identical specifications with the former HD 7770 GHz Edition. That means 640 stream processors clocked at 1,000 MHz and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 4,500 MHz. The graphics card will also be available in a more expensive version with 2 GB of graphics memory.

The fact that the graphics card is based on an older circuit means that neither Trueaudio nor XDMA is present – these technologies remain exclusive to the more modern Bonaire and Hawaii circuits. However, since Cape Verde is based on Graphics Core Next (GCN), there is support for the Mantle programming interface (API).

Radeon R7 250X will be available in stores shortly at the recommended sales price of 69 euros excluding VAT, corresponding to approximately SEK 800 including VAT. Early listings, however, suggest that the graphics card is closer to SEK 900 including VAT.
