AMD launches the Radeon RX 500X series in the third quarter of 2018

In the summer of 2016, AMD unveiled the Polaris graphics architecture with the Radeon RX 480 graphics card, which was designed to offer affordable in-game performance and virtual reality. Last year, the company released a refined variant of the cards in the Radeon RX 400 series, where the top model Radeon RX 580 offers slightly higher clock frequencies and energy efficiency.

Tweaktown now reports that AMD intends to launch another set of graphics cards based on Polaris, and this time the series will be named Radeon RX 500X. The new models will reportedly not offer any increased functionality, but the performance will be five to six percent better than the current counterparts.

The Radeon RX 500X series is expected to launch in the third quarter of the year, specifically in June or July. It is also during this time period that Nvidia’s next consumer-oriented graphics card series will probably be presented, and AMD’s new additions will then meet the competitor’s products in the low- and middle-segment.
