AMD Radeon R9 Fury gets specifications

In late June, AMD launched the flagship Radeon R9 Fury X, which is proven to have plenty of performance. Smolk in the cup for some was the closed water cooler, which is why many have ice in their stomachs waiting for the stripped-down sibling R9 Fury, where partners are given free rein to develop tailor-made solutions.

Tweaktown is now reporting on the specifications for the R9 Fury, which, according to previous rumors, will have 3,584 stream processors – seven-eighths of the Fiji XT in the Radeon R9 Fury X – and the same clock frequency of 1,050 MHz. The latter, however, is not set in stone as partners are likely to release factory-overclocked variants.

Block diagram of the Fiji graphics processor.

The number of stream processors reveals that AMD locked eight so-called GCN clusters, which means that the number of texture units decreases from 256 to 224. In addition, nothing else is expected to differ from full-scale Fiji, but here too 64 raster units and a 4,096-bit memory bus with 4 GB HBM memory in 1,000 MHz apply for a theoretical memory bandwidth of 512 GB / s.

The biggest difference lies outside the graphics processor. Since the Radeon R9 Fury will be without a water-cooled reference design and instead air-cooled, the temperatures are said to be around 75 degrees, which is clearly higher than the 50 degrees AMD signs for the water-cooled flagship or SweClockers measured 55 degrees.

Radeon R9 Fury will start sales on July 14 with a recommended price of 549 dollars, corresponding to just under 6,000 kronor including VAT.
