Asus is preparing the Radeon R9 Fury Strix with the DirectCU III radiator

On July 14, it’s time for the Radeon R9 Fury to make its entrance. The graphics card is based on a slightly stripped-down variant of the Fiji graphics circuit, which means that it is expected to be just behind the R9 Fury X in terms of performance. What makes many still look forward to the model is a lower price and that partner manufacturers get their hands free.

Now one of the first models at the German retailer Computer PC Shop is listed. This is a variant from Asus with the designation Strix, which means semi-passive cooling where the fans are switched off during a set temperature target. This includes the company’s latest performance cooler DirectCU III.

The new radiator from Asus has three 100 mm fans, which cool a solid aluminum heat sink with five heat pipes. Two of these are extra thick and are called “mega heatpipes” with a diameter of 10 millimeters. Provided that the cooling solution is identical to that of the Geforce GTX 980 Ti, the R9 Fury Strix should also take up two slots.
