AMD Radeon “RDNA 3” can get Displayport 2.0

The Displayport 2.0 connection interface has been ready since 2019, but has not yet been implemented in any consumer products. Now Phoronix reports that this is something AMD may be able to remedy as they update their kernel driver for Linux.

The new update adds support for Ultra High Bit Rate 10 (UHBR10), which is a step up from the current 32.40 Gbps to 40 Gbps. Maximum speed with Displayport 2.0 is achieved through UHBR20 which allows a full 80 Gbps. With the help of Display Stream Compression (DSC), the bass specification with UHBR10 is sufficient to drive, for example, 8K at 60 Hz or 4K with higher refresh rates.

In addition to software, of course, hardware is required and it is most likely that AMD will lay the foundation for future graphics cards based on the RDNA 3. Architecture. higher performing option with its 48 Gbps bandwidth.
