AMD winner in the graphics market Q2 2013

The personal computer continues to go in favor of increased sales of tablets and other mobile devices. The market for graphics cards has always been an important indicator for the personal computer market and a new study from the analysis and consulting firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR), which specializes in the graphics market, shows signs that the personal computer market is recovering.

Market shares: IGP / GPU Q2 2013
While the news was disappointing year-to-year, the news was encouraging quarter-to-quarter. AMD overall unit shipments increased 10.9%, quarter-to-quarter, Intel increased 6.2%, and Nvidia decreased by 8%. The overall PC market declined 2.5% quarter-to-quarter while the graphics market increased 4.6%.
According to the survey, sales of personal computers fell by 11.2 percent on an annual basis and 2.5 percent from the first quarter of the year. For graphics processors, deliveries decreased by 6.8 percent from last year, but increased by 4.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2013. The increase is partly attributed to consumers continuing to want a dedicated graphics card in addition to the integrated one.

AMD is the big winner in the second quarter, with a growth of 10.9 percent. This is mainly thanks to the company’s processors with integrated graphics, where the number of delivered devices for laptops increased by as much as 47.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. The increase on the mobile side can probably be attributed to the launch of Kabini and Temash in the spring. On a stationary front, however, the company lost 9.6 percent.

The graphics card maker Nvidia, which does not sell any x86 processors with integrated graphics, lost 8 percent of its deliveries from the first quarter of the year. The company saw no growth in either the desktop or portable segment, but lost 8.9 percent and 7.1 percent, respectively.

The semiconductor giant Intel remains the largest in the market thanks to its integrated graphics processors, but due to AMD’s success, the company fell back from 62 to 61.1 percent in terms of market share. However, the number of delivered processors with integrated graphics increased by 6.8 percent.
