Asus demonstrates Cooltech Fan – hybrid fan in DirectCU Mini

Smaller form factors are on the rise in everything from compact office machines to lavish gaming jars. Asus is on the notes and is preparing an unusually compact Geforce GTX 670 that only measures 17 centimeters in length, which is fittingly the same dimensions as the Mini ITX.

The smallest is called the Asus Geforce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini, which also describes the included cooler. The solution is steam chamber based and takes up an extra card space, but what is presented as the big news is the included fan according to the Cooltech Fan concept.

A video on Youtube now demonstrates the new fan solution, which is a kind of hybrid design with inspiration from both radial fans and axial fans. According to Asus, the model will provide a more focused airflow to a lower noise level than before, something that is visualized by blowing away rice (!).

Otherwise, Nvidia’s graphics processor GK104 is marked with 1,344 CUDA cores, 256-bit memory bus and 2 GB of memory. Asus scares up the clock frequency to 1,006 MHz (Boost), a modest 26 MHz over the standard version, and leaves the memory at the reference design’s 6,008 MHz GDDR5.

The Asus Geforce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini will be on the market at the end of April. Some price information is not yet known.
