Asus demonstrates Geforce GTX 1080 ROG Strix on Computex

On May 27, Nvidia released its Geforce GTX 1080 graphics card in stores, which marked the start for the company’s partner manufacturers to reveal details about their own cards. The Computex trade fair will therefore, not entirely unexpectedly, be the arena where many of the cards are shown for the first time, which is the case for Asus, which is making a big splash with its model ROG Strix.

Geforce GTX 1080 ROG Strix is based around Asus’ own cooling solution DirectCU III, where a total of three fans cool a heat sink construction whose integrated heat conduction tubes have direct contact with the card’s GPU. The circuit board itself is equipped with a cover plate on the back and comes with power supply in 8 + 2 phases and extra power via 6 + 8-pin PCI Express.

The model is also factory overclocked, where the turbo frequency from cardboard is listed as 1,898 MHz, with the possibility of turning this up one more step to 1,936 MHz in the included software. The software is also used to control the card’s RGB lighting, which follows the company’s Aura standard and can synchronize to work with, for example, the motherboard’s lighting.

In other respects, the card has been equipped with its own set of picture outputs, where a Displayport has had to be ironed on the base for another HDMI port. The reason for this is to facilitate the connection of VR headsets at the same time as, for example, a TV is connected to the other port. As a bonus, the card also has two integrated fan contacts whose purpose is to control the chassis fans according to the temperature of the graphics processor.

Asus Geforce GTX 1080 ROG Strix is expected to land in stores on June 9 with a recommended price tag of SEK 7,499 including VAT.
