On July 7, AMD released the two Ryzen 3000 and Radeon RX 5700 product families, both of which use a 7-nanometer manufacturing process and new architectures. Regardless of manufacturer, the graphics cards followed AMD’s reference design, and vendor-adapted products will follow in mid-August.
One of the companies preparing its own designs for the Radeon RX 5700 family is Asus, and now specifications for the company’s graphics card in the Strix series are being sought online. The data concerns Strix variants of the Radeon RX 5700 XT and the specified clock frequencies for the cards’ overclocking mode show a surprisingly large step up, compared to the reference models.

The information comes from documents the publication Videocardz has managed to get its hands on. According to the information, the Asus RX 5700 XT Strix should have a base frequency that is higher than the boost frequency for little brother Radeon RX 5700, but slightly below the boost level for the Radeon RX 5700 XT in reference version. Asus’ turbo frequency instead takes the step up to a respectable 2,035 MHz, an increase of 130 MHz compared to the reference design.
According to information in the document, this will give a performance increase of 4.65 percent compared to the reference design in the synthetic test suite 3DMark 11. Furthermore, it is stated that the Asus RX 5700 XT Strix will be equipped with the company’s new axial fans, which are also used in their Geforce RTX 2080 Ti products . This should cool the card 18 percent better than the reference design, and give 32 percent lower sound levels.
The well-sized cooler solution also becomes more space-consuming than the reference cooler and occupies 2.7 card slots in the computer. The fan speed can be controlled via software but also a BIOS switch, which switches between different fan profiles. Those who are interested in overclocking can benefit from the relatively beefy power supply over 11 + 3 phases.
The cards’ RGB lighting can be controlled via Aura Sync RGB and it must also be possible to connect and control two external fans via 4-pin PWM connectors. The planned launch date for the Asus RX 5700 XT Strix is August 16, but information on price levels is missing at the time of writing.
