Asus transforms the ancient Geforce GT 710 board with four HDMI

Third-party manufacturers mostly strive to release products with the latest cutting-edge hardware, from companies such as AMD, Nvidia and Intel. Sometimes, however, companies deviate temporarily from the wrapped-up track, instead releasing an aging product in heated attire. Biostar, for example, unveiled a motherboard with socket LGA 1155 for Sandy Bridge as recently as February 2020.

Now Asus is also jumping on the bandwagon and presenting a redesigned variant of the entry-level graphics card Geforce GT 710, which made its debut in 2014. With low power consumption, low profile and modest price tag, the originals are still on the market, for those who need more image outputs for surfing. or the office computer. Asus continues to spin on the latter needs and gives the GT 710 four HDMI connections.

The older Geforce GT 710 models are often equipped with a single HDMI, backed by VGA or DVI. With the latter picture connections connected to the circuit board via flexible cables, a common function is that the cards can be converted to a low-profile format. This will not be possible with the Asus variant, which comes with a redesigned circuit board with all the image outputs soldered.

However, the card occupies only one expansion slot and is passively cooled by a green-gray aluminum heat sink, and all power is taken from the PCI Express connection. Unlike many older Geforce GT 710s, the PCI Express connection here is only of the x1 type, while the protocol is still PCI Express 2.0 – completely in line with the low graphics performance.

The graphics circuit is based on the Kepler architecture and the 192 CUDA cores have a maximum frequency of 954 MHz. The graphics memory consists of 2 GB GDDR5 with the frequency 5 102 MHz and the memory bus is 64 bits wide, for a total bandwidth of a staggering 40 GB / s. The four HDMI connections are all powerful with 4K UHD resolution, but if more than one such screen is connected, the frame rate is limited to 30 Hz.

Although the graphics card does not fit in the low-profile chassis, it is a neat card with a length of 167 millimeters. With a thickness of only 19 millimeters, Asus believes that the card is well suited for mounting with several other Geforce GT 710 on the same motherboard, but worth keeping in mind is that integrated graphics can in many cases hit the card on the fingers.

At the time of writing, it is unclear when the Asus Geforce GT 710 will appear in stores and at what price, but the model will probably end up close to the models available on the market today. For cards in the GDDR5 version, prices start at around SEK 600 at Swedish retailers.
