Blockchain voting systems revealed a number of vulnerabilities

The University of North Carolina conducted a study in the field of reliability and security of voting systems on the blockchain, as a result of which a number of problems were identified.

According to the report, during testing, in which community projects and student self-government groups participated, vulnerabilities were discovered in digital systems and administrative processes. Researchers note that these shortcomings should be addressed before the massive introduction of technology.

According to Professor Nir Kshetri, the main problem is the verification of the identity of voters. There are fears that even face recognition systems may make mistakes, as is the case with the Voatz blockchain system, which does not allow checking the accuracy of the vote.

“Even experts can’t always identify violations that can occur with online voting. With paper voting, it’s much easier to verify your identity, ”said Kshetri.

Recall that this month the Uruguay Digital Party entered into an agreement with æternity, whose application will be used to conduct anonymous internal voting. In addition, last year, the Russian “Growth Party” held a test inter-party vote on the blockchain.
