BMW injects blockchain into its supply chain

The automaker BMW use the blockchain technology in order to increase the efficiency and transparency of its Supply Chain.

For 2 years, large companies have been experimenting with blockchain to try to optimize their activity, especially in terms of supply chain.

The supply chains in the automotive industry are particularly complex. Using this technology would share information more effectively on products.

BWM satisfied with the first results

In a press release, the group BMW announced to use the blockchain in its purchases to ensure the traceability components and raw materials in supply chains.

In 2019, we completed a pilot project to purchase front lights. This year we want to extend the project to a large number of other suppliers, ”said Andreas Wendt, member of the executive committee of BMW AG.

Baptized PartChain, the platform developed by BMW also uses solutions cloud, like Microsoft Azur and Amazon AWS, in addition to the blockchain.

The platform soon open to MOBI members

German automaker plans to open platform to members of blockchain consortium MOBI, an organization created in 2018 and composed of the largest car manufacturers on the planet.

Our vision is to create an open platform that will allow data from supply chains to be exchanged and shared securely and anonymized across the industry, "added Wendt.

Last fall, the consortium MOBI announced to test a new identification standard of vehicles based on the blockchain.
