China orders government and SOEs to get rid of foreign PCs

China ordered government agencies and state-backed corporations to replace personal computers foreign brand with national alternatives, the idea is that by 2024 everything will be of domestic industry, which marks one of the most aggressive efforts by Beijing so far to eradicate foreign technology from its most sensitive organs.

The Chinese government is now asking its staff to turn in their foreign PCs and trade them in for local alternatives that run on software developed in the country, people familiar with the plan said. It is likely that the exercise eventually replace at least 50 million PCssaid close staff, asking to remain anonymous as it is a sensitive subject.

Why is all this happening? China has long wanted to shield itself from the foreign economy by keeping the money from imports within its own country and not buying from abroad. They do not want to depend on foreign technology or products, at least not to a great extent. In addition to wanting to reinforce government security in all its agencies and commercial entities.
