China’s national blockchain network (BSN) will launch in April 2020, six months after it was launched for testing.

The project is supported by the Chinese State Information Center (SIC) and numerous major Chinese companies. The network aims to provide a reliable and scalable infrastructure to support new blockchain projects. It can also be used to develop smart cities and the digital economy.

CIS has officially announced the launch date of the project at the China Urban Regulation Innovation Forum. BSN will be officially launched for commercial operations in April, after the network was launched for internal beta testing in October 2019.

BSN is a joint initiative of state-run think tanks and state-owned companies in China. The interregional public infrastructure network is jointly developed by CIS, China Mobile Telecommunications Company and China UnionPay payment processor, among others.

During the internal testing period between October 2019 and March 2020, the BSN network will involve 400 companies and 600 developers. The pilot project took place in Hangzhou City, the capital of eastern China province.

BSN aims to reduce the technical and economic costs associated with developing blockchain adoption.
The network plays an important role in the Chinese government’s plans to support blockchain technology.
