Concept Polaris, this is what an external graphics box should look like according to Alienware | CES 2022

Is called Concept Polaris the latest idea of Alienware in fact of external boxes for desktop video cards, also known as the external Graphics Processing Unit (eGPU). The company was among the first to think about this solution to allow boost the graphics performance of notebooks, when he introduced the Alienware Graphics Amplifier in 2014.

“Concept Polaris takes everything we have learned about the Alienware Graphics Amplifier from our teams, customers and the community to improve,” the company emphasizes. Being a concept dedicated to fans of the brand, people who love the high performance and style of the brand, have first of all applied the futuristic and iconic Alienware Legend 2.0 design to the new eGPU. This not only makes it attractive, but also allows for vertical and horizontal positioning of the box.

As for power, Alienware has removed the internal power supply opting for a double 330W or 425W external power supply depending on the GPU on board. In this way the video cards inside get the energy they need, leaving more space inside to insert solutions up to 40 cm liquid-cooled by a 240 mm Cryo-Tech system, with a lot of proprietary Element 31 thermal interface , or liquid metal composed of gallium-silicone.

Finally, Concept Polaris could integrate multiple connection ports such as Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 to work not only with notebooks from Alienware, but also from other manufacturers. All this, concludes the company, with the addition of USB A, USB C and Ethernet 2.5 Gb ports to use the eGPU for other purposes in addition to that of graphics power amplifier.
