Deep dive into the history of graphics cards – Nvidia and ATI are taking over the market

As the 1990s drew to a close, a number of major changes followed in the wake of the new millennium. The ruling giant 3dfx would make a series of fateful decisions. ATI would carry out an acquisition that not only laid the foundation for the company’s future success on the graphics card side, but also created a new market that would provide great success in the future.

During this era, there were still several major competitors with their own technical solutions on the market and some alternative rendering techniques, but the further into the 2000s we got, the more the market began to thin out and focus on circuits from the market’s emerging duopoly ATI and Nvidia. The latter would experience its first dominant period in the market during this period.
