EVGA launches Geforce GTX 980 Ti Kingpin with hand-picked graphics chips

Geforce GTX 980 Ti with the graphics circuit GM200 has given rise to a wide selection of models from Nvidia’s partner manufacturers, where increased overclocking is often one thing that distinguishes the cards. Now EVGA is launching its most lavish variant in the Kingpin series, which is synonymous with plenty of features aimed at overclockers.

The parade number for the EVGA Geforce GTX 980 Ti Kingpin is a lavish circuit board that is specially designed overclocking. A printed circuit board with extra copper in twelve layers is accompanied by a voltage part with 14 phases for the graphics circuit and 3 phases for the GDDR5 memory. This includes two 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI Express connection for a power supply of up to 450 W according to ATX standard.

For cooling, you first notice a baking tray and also one in the front, which has direct contact with heat-generating parts such as voltage part and memory. This is about EVGA’s cooling solution ACX 2.0+ with heat pipes in copper and flanges in aluminum. Unique to the Kingpin version is that the housing is made of metal and is equipped with lighting, which can be controlled through the Precision X software.

Another feature that is aimed directly at those who plan the water-cooled graphics card is that the video connections (three Mini Displayport 1.2, one HDMI 2.0 and DVI) only take up one line in the back, which together with an included bracket makes it have the potential to occupy only one expansion space in the computer case.

For specifications, the EVGA Geforce GTX 980 Ti Kingpin has 2,816 CUDA cores at 1,203 and 1,304 MHz at base respective boost, up from Nvidia’s reference values 1,000 and 1,075 MHz respectively. For video memory, 6 GB GDDR5 from Samsung applies at 7,010 MHz, with an “OC Mode” of 7,096 MHz.

Like previous iteration in the Kingpin series, it is about hand-picked graphics circuits. This time, EVGA goes a step further than before and sells the graphics card in four different price ranges, where a higher price means greater potential for overclocking. The price for the graphics card is from 849.99–1 049.99 dollars, corresponding to a price range of SEK 9,200–11,400 including VAT.
