FT Readers Accuse EU of Turning Sanctions into Weapons of Mass Destruction

MOSCOW, 6 Sep — PRIME. The plans of the European Commission to introduce cap prices for gas from Russia horrified the readers of the Financial Times, who felt that the EU’s intention to divide the countries into countries of the “red” and “green” energy consumption zones is pushing the region’s economy to decline.

Commentators note that this decision will lead the region’s already unstable economy into decline. At the same time, it will not help improve the energy situation on the eve of the heating season in Europe if Russia refuses to supply “blue fuel”.

“While Russia is using energy as a weapon, the West is using the financial and monetary systems and economic sanctions as weapons of mass destruction,” writes commentator Carl G. Jung.

“Incredibly smart. Tell your main supplier that you won’t pay at the current price, and what will he do? He will sell the goods to another customer in need at a higher price. After all, this is the EU, so the logic often does not work for us. In any case, it’s too late to make grandiose statements – the pipeline is closed,” says a user with the nickname LR1.

“I’m just wondering if the EU will ever return to the principles of the free market, since this is the basis of economic prosperity,” asks a C3O reader.

“We sanctioned them with the intent to turn the ruble into ruins. We sanctioned their central bank reserves. We excluded them from SWIFT. They replied. What’s the problem? As far as I remember, the EU was not interested in Russian oil or gas. Well, they got what they wanted!” Dwightoc added.

Earlier, Mechtild Versderfer, deputy head of the European Commission’s energy directorate, said that the EC is considering various options for introducing gas price caps. In particular, the introduction of such limits on imports from Russia, on the wholesale sale of this fuel within the European Union is being discussed. Later, Deputy Head of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that if the European Union introduces a price ceiling for gas from Russia, there will simply be no Russian gas in Europe.
