GeForce GTX 2080, photos of a prototype pop up on the net: the only GTX with RT support in hardware
The photos of an unprecedented and somewhat strange have appeared on the net GeForce GTX 2080. Yes, you have not read it wrong, we are talking about a GTX and not an RTX. Not much is known about the genesis of this card, except for the photos published by Reddit user ascendance22.
For months, in 2018, before the debut of the GeForce RTX video cards of the 2000 series, there were rumors about the possible branding of the new range, with GeForce GTX 1100 in pole position and the GTX 1180 at the top of the line. This did not happen, as we all know, so much so that the presentation of the first RTX 2000 also did NVIDIA CEO Huang made fun of the leakers’ topic.
The new photos, however, put everything, albeit partially, into question. Perhaps the initial intention of NVIDIA was to keep the GTX brand throughout the line, because as we all know the company used the term GTX for the 1600 series solutions, equipped like the 2000 proposals with Turing GPU but without RT units. and active tensor cores.
The photos show us a heatsink identical to that of the RTX 2080 Founders Edition, except for the GTX brand instead of the RTX one and the absence of the numerical identification of the solution. The prototype in question was bought on eBay for about $ 360.
For the rest, technically speaking it is an RTX 2080 in all respects, RT and Tensor core included: in short, the one and only GTX – at the moment – capable of managing hardware ray tracing and DLSS upscaling technology.
