Gigabyte Aero and Aorus: laptops for creators and gamers update in RTX SUPER / Core H key 10th gen

The new generation Gigabyte Aorus laptops share 240 Hz displays (FHD 1080p resolution) and mechanical keyboards with Omron switches. The two companies collaborated to create switches with a reduced stroke (1.6 mm) but able to offer tactile sensations comparable to those of regular mechanical keyboards. Of course there is the RGB backlight customizable by button.

There are three models in total:

  • Aorus 17X – the most powerful and prestigious of the family, with the most daring design and (inevitably) the most important dimensions. The laptop can be equipped with Intel processors up to I9-10980H, octa-core, and with GPUs up to NVIDIA RTX 2080 SUPER Max-Q. The completely redesigned Windforce Infinity dissipation system, includes two 12V fans, five heatpipes, vapor chambers and four air intakes, promises a 37% increase in efficiency compared to the previous Aorus X9.
There are two slots for NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs and one for 2.5 "SATA disks. 94 Wh, while the power supply is 330 W. As we can see from the images, the display has very small edges – just 3 millimeters. The webcam is positioned at the bottom. The configuration is completed by Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet by Killer, and the latest generation of ESS Saber audio DAC. As doors, we find:
    • An HDMI 2.0
    • A USB 3.1 Type-C with DisplayPort 1.4
    • A USB 3.1 Type-C
    • A USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3
    • Three USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A
    • A UHS-II memory card reader
    • audio jack and headphones
    • supply

  • Aorus 17G and 15G – they have a more minimalist and less flashy design than the 17X, but they too can go high with the specifications. Here too you can go up to the Core i9 and the RTX 2080 SUPER. Mechanical keyboard with Omron switch and FHD 1080p / 240 Hz display remain. The 15G offers several GPU side options, including the "smooth" RTX 20xx and GTX 16xx. In both models there are 94 Wh batteries.

  • Aorus 5 and Aorus 7 – premium machines without overdoing it and with the most affordable prices. 144 Hz FHD panels are combined with Intel CPUs up to i7-10750H (no i9, chip exacore) and RTX 2060 GPU (not SUPER), alternatively the GTX 1660 Ti. The battery drops to 49 Wh, and the keyboard has no mechanical switches (it remains RGB backlit, with 15 configurable areas.).

These laptops are primarily aimed at content creators. Instead of refresh rates, high resolution and high color fidelity are preferred: thanks to the collaboration with Pantone Xrite, all displays promise a Delta E less than 1 (remember that 3 is considered the limit below which the human eye is unable, or at least very difficult, to distinguish differences from reality).

Also a debut model with AMOLED display made by Samsung, with 4K resolution and support for HDR400. The GPU drivers are NVIDIA Studio, which maximizes performance in over 40 editing, modeling and retouching applications. The technical specifications are basically the same as the Aorus, as well as the design, which has several points in common especially with the 17G and 15G. This also applies to the webcam, located at the bottom.

The range is divided into four models: Aero 15 / Aero 15 AMOLED and Aero 17 / Aero 17 HDR. The main differences lie in the displays: AMOLED and HDR offer 4K, 60 Hz, HDR10 panels and with 100% coverage of the Adobe RGB color space, the other two mount 1080p panels with 144 Hz refresh.

All laptops will go on sale from mid-April; we have no information on prices for Italy, but we have several details for the USA:

  • Aorus 17G: from $ 1,799
