GTA VI will be the most realistic game in the series, and the behavior of NPCs will be much more varied

One of the biggest failures of Cyberpunk 2077 was the NPC’s lopsided control system. Passers-by do not react to danger at all. They don’t even throw themselves under cars like they did in games 15 years ago. These guys just stand and wait to get knocked down. Any other residents of the city who do not have clear algorithms and are not programmed as part of a company or any mission are arranged in exactly the same way.

Compared to GTA V, the guys from CD Projekt RED have a complete failure in this direction. Well, apparently, Rockstar is planning to show the whole world how to make games correctly, and most importantly: how to make the city alive. So, back in the fall of 2020, a patent was registered for “Visual navigation system in the game world”… Judging by the description, the built-in AI will significantly improve the behavior of NPCs, making them “smarter”

The patent says that all computer-controlled characters will receive more information about the state of the city. They will know the streets, see the approaching cars, assess their danger and act according to the situation. This means that we will see many non-standard algorithms that will significantly diversify the game, making it more realistic.

It is also important that the NPC will no longer disappear without a trace after you turn away or walk away a couple of meters. It is clear that there is no need to draw people on another street, but in the form of numbers they will constantly exist in the memory of the game. Also mentioned is an intelligent driving style that takes traffic and weather conditions into account. The patent calls this a “low-level emergency avoidance system.
