How to clean your mouse without damaging it and make it look like new

Cleaning the mouse is a very simple task to do and that it shouldn't take us more than five minutes, reason for more so that we do it with certain frequency because by the simple fact of being putting the hand on it, it gets dirty very easily.

What materials do you need?

There are many ways to clean the mouse and make it look pretty good, but if we do it well, it will look even better and will last much longer in good condition. Therefore, the technique that we are going to teach you today requires the following materials:

  • Isopropyl alcohol.
  • Toilet paper.

How to clean the mouse and make it look like new

In the example we are going to use a mouse that has been used for about six months since the last cleaning, about 10 hours a day. As you can see, it not only has many brands but also dirt and dust. Look at the side buttons and the scroll wheel above all.

If we go to the bottom, although it is not an area that is in contact with the hand it also has enough dirt, especially at the edges of the sliding Teflon legs. This is because the dust is deposited on the mouse pad, as well as the sweat of the hand and wrist, dirt that ends up being dragged along the edges of the mouse's legs and accumulating there.

Let's take a closer look to appreciate it better.

The first step to clean the mouse is to impregnate the microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol, and face it well in all its contours, including at the base. This will already eliminate 90% of the dirt and dust embedded, but to reach every corner, especially between the keys and buttons as well as to give a more thorough review of the Teflon legs, is where the stick comes into play and the toilet paper.

With a not very large piece of toilet paper, we must fold it several times on itself but squeezing it well so that it is quite thin. Having done this, we introduce the stick in the center.

Once we have arranged it, we slightly wet the toilet paper with isopropyl alcohol.

Now, with this "gadget" that we have assembled, we introduce it through all the cavities and recesses of the mouse, leaving it "nickel-plated". Look at the difference once clean.

More closely to appreciate it better.

As you can see, the mouse has been almost flawless, and if we perform this process from time to time we will make it look good even after a long time of use. There are marks and friction that will inevitably be seen, but if we keep it clean and hygienic, things change a lot. As a note, the SteelSeries Rival 650 used in this tutorial has about a year and a half of use, and is still in excellent condition thanks to periodic cleaning.
