In most of the times, when downloading and installing a browser such as Google Chrome, its default configuration is usually such that when download a file in PDF format, these tend to run after the download is complete.

Sometimes this is advantageous, but there are users who do not find this configuration viable. Therefore, we will teach you how you should download PDF files without these being executed after they have been downloaded.

Where are PDFs downloaded from Google saved?

In general, all applications and programs for computers have a folder where they are usually store all downloaded files. In the case of Google Chrome and all browsers based on its code, they ask you where you want the document or file to be downloaded to be saved.

In case it doesn’t ask you, the location is usually the same, that is, in the Downloads folder. In the same way, if it is more convenient for you for this browser to store the files in a specific folder, it is enough that:

  • Run the Google Chrome browser
  • Now in the upper right, select the option of the three dots and then go to settings.
  • Now you go to search for Advanced configuration and you will click there
  • Go to the download section and then make the modifications you need.
    • o Here you can change the default configuration that the browser has for downloads. You just have to click change and then choose which one will be the new one location for downloaded files.
    • o In case you want something more specific, you will have to choose to mark the checkbox that refers to requesting a location before downloads.

With this you will have greater peace of mind when you download a document of this type. In fact, something similar happens with users who try to convert a Word file to PDF without programs. This process is usually done online and if the configuration is not explained, it will continue to run the file once the conversion is finished and download.

Keep in mind that the same process that will be done to configure Google Chrome, is done exactly the same for the rest of browsers, whether it is Chromium-based programs or any other like Morzilla firexfox or Brave. The fact is that you can download a PDF and leave it in Stand By so as not to open it with the same program.

Google Settings

In the case of PDF downloads, this will depend mainly on the configuration of the page. That is, there are pages that to download a PDF file, you have to enter an online document and wait for all the elements to load. On the other hand, there are those pages that once you click on it, the file download starts automatically.

In any case, you have to make sure that the configuration that we previously explained is personalized by you or otherwise, when the download is finished It will open by default with Google Chrome.

It is worth mentioning that you can change this by just going to any PDF file, selecting it with a right click and choose the option Open With… Here a series of options will be displayed, you just have to choose the program that is compatible with the file and make sure that the box below the window is checked.

Now, after you run it with the program of your choice, depending on it, you can extract the text from a PDF file without complications.

External tools

Compared to the configuration of Google Chrome, with third-party tools you do not need as much configuration. It is enough that you have configured your browser as we already mentioned. Then go to the downloaded PDF file, select with right click and then Open With, and here find the program that you have installed in advance.

This will open with that program and most likely from now on, that will be the program with which all PDF files will be viewed. Now, this is up to each user, since everyone has their best applications to read and edit PDF files.

How to disable automatic PDF viewing in Google?

The steps are very simple and you just have to go to the your browser settings. From there, you will have to do what we will explain below:

  • Settings and then Advanced Settings
  • Now look for the Privacy and Security option
  • The options that will be shown below will be several, you just have to focus on Content Settings.
  • Once you have clicked on this option, the menu that will appear can be customized to your liking.
  • Go down to the last until find the option of PDF documents
  • Here you just have to change the option that is marked to one that allows you to only download the PDF files.

With this you will be more than ready. From now on, any PDF document you download it will not run automatically in the browser, but will only notify you when the download has been made.
