How to Exchange Files in Windows 10 with Other Users?

If we have downloaded a file to the user that we have active on our Windows 10 computer and we want to pass it on to a guest user, for example, what can we do? In the development of this article we want to show you in a simple way how to share files with other users and with users on the same PC.

Can all operating systems be able to share files with other users?

Yes, as long as both teams are connected to the same network. This feature gives us an advantage when it comes to sending files to another PC, as we will not need any external device such as USB sticks or mobile phones.

How do I prepare my computer for file and folder sharing?

To prepare your computer with little there are to do certain settings. Of course, to share files from one PC to another it is best that both computers have Windows 10 installed and with its updates.

Check connection

First of all, you have to make sure that both computers are connected to a WiFi network and that it is the same in both so that they can connect to each other.

Disable SMB 1.0 / CIFS for increased security

Today, most Windows 10 computers use versions 2.0 or 3.0, which are the secure versions; Nevertheless, SMB version 1.0 is dangerous. And we say this because it is a vulnerable version that presents many flaws in the security of the PC, which would completely affect the operating system of the same.

What are the options for moving files from one user account to another?

The same operating system gives us several options to pass files from an account on a PC to another account on another computer and then we will show you what they are.

Set the computer to network mode

This is done so that there is a connection between both computers, thus creating an internal network between the two; and for that, check the network settings. The configuration must be as ‘Private network’, for this you have to go to the ‘Center of networks and shared resources’.

Activate sharing

To configure sharing in Windows 10 access the ‘Control Center and Sharing Resources’ and then the option on the side ‘Change advanced sharing settings’. For this option to work and to have the permission, it is necessary that the three settings of ‘Private, Public or Guest’ are activated.

Use the workgroup option

You must access the folders available in ‘File Explorer’ and in the ‘This computer’ option, right-click and select ‘Properties’. There, configuration changes can be made by placing name the team and mark the ‘Workgroup’ with a name.

In this case, it is necessary that the computers to be connected have the same configuration and for the changes to be saved, the computers must be restored or restarted.

Share and access a specific folder in Windows 10

Carrying out this is very simple, you only have to choose the folder that we are going to share and with the right click access the ‘Properties’. Then, go to the ‘Share’ tab and select ‘Advanced sharing’ and under ‘Share this folder’ and access the permissions that the other user will have.

From the other computer you have to connect the user with whom you are going to share from the ‘Network’ option on this computer to go to the address bar.

How to verify that I shared the files or folders properly?

To do this you must go to the ‘File Explorer’ and in the search bar put ‘localhost’ to be able to access, view and check the folders you have shared.

How can I share files between users on the same PC?

The first is to enter the ‘File Explorer’ and access between the folders to ‘Local disk C’ and then to ‘Users’. Once inside you will see all the users that are on the PC, enter there and you will see all the folders that are in that user, where you can search the files. Now right click on it and select the ‘Copy’ option; so you can go to another folder in your username where to paste the file.

Does Windows allow sharing programs between user accounts?

Just as Windows allows you to share files, photos, documents, videos and music, it also offers its users the option to share programs no matter how heavy it is.
