How to improve audio quality using high / low pass filters in Audacity

If you are recording a song at home or anywhere else that is not soundproof, the recorded audio will most likely get all other high or low frequency sounds, which is not desirable at all. For that, you must use the Audacity software, which is freely available on the Internet. This has many good features to filter out noise, unwanted frequency, and can enhance audio very efficiently. In this article, we will show you how it can be done using Audacity.

How to improve audio quality using high / low pass filters in Audacity

Paso 1: Start the Audacity application

  • press Win logo Key and type Audacity.
  • Then hit Pay in key on your keyboard.

Paso 2: Opens the audio file that needs to be improved.

  • Go to Proceedings in the menu bar.
  • Click on Opened.
  • Select the file and press Pay in.

Paso 3: Background noise reduction

  1. Select the entire audio file.
  2. Click Effect.
  3. Click on Noise reduction of the list

Paso 4: Sets the following parameters:

  1. Noise reduction (dB) a 48.
  2. Keep sensitivity at the default value (6 or 7)
  3. Frequency smoothing (bands) to 0.

Then click OK to reduce background noise.

Paso 5: After noise reduction, apply a low-pass filter to the audio.

  1. Select the audio file.
  2. Click Effect
  3. Then select Low pass filter of the list.

Paso 6: In the Low Pass Filter window,

  1. Set the Frequency (Hz) value to 85
  2. Click Roll-off (dB per octave) and select 48 dB from the drop-down list.
  3. Then click OK to apply the filter.

Paso 7: Now is the time to filter the high frequency of the audio.

To do this,

  1. Select the audio.
  2. On the menu bar, click Effect.
  3. Then select High pass filter of the list.

Paso 8: In the high pass filter window,

  1. Change the value of Frequency (Hz) for 500
  2. Reduction (dB per octave) for 48 dB.
  3. Click OK to apply the high pass filter.

Now play the audio file and observe the changes in the enhancement of the audio file.

Note:- Try adjusting the Frequency values ​​in the filter window according to the intensity of the audio file you have.
