How to set a custom page size in Google Docs – Easy Steps

How to set a custom page size in Google Docs

A4 is the standard paper size used for online documents and for printing, but there are other quite popular page sizes that people print on. They may not be as popular as the A4 size, which is roughly the same size as a laptop, but they are still in use.

Google Docs custom page size

Google Docs allows users to change the page size of any document they create. To do so, follow these steps;

  1. Open the Google Doc whose page size you want to change.
  2. Go to File> Page Setup.
  3. In the window that opens, select the page orientation.
  4. Open the Page Size drop-down menu.
  5. Select a page size and it will be applied to your document.

The limitation of this method is that Google Docs only lists a handful of preset sizes. A user cannot enter a custom page size. The presets that Google Docs supports barely cover document sizes.

Custom page size in Google Docs

To set a custom page size in Google Docs, you will need to install a plugin. The plugin is free and gives users complete freedom to set the page size as they wish.

  1. Open any Google Docs file.
  2. Go to Plugins> Get Plugins.
  3. In the plugin library, find and install Page Sizer.

  1. Allow the plugin to access Google Docs data.
  2. Once installed, go to Plugins> Page Size> Set Page Size.
  3. In the window that opens, select the units in which you want to define the size (inches, millimeters, or points).
  4. Enter the size you want in the width and height fields.
  5. Click OK.
  6. The page size will be changed.

The page size will only be applied to the current document. There is no option to change the default document size for all documents in Google Docs. If you share a Google Docs document that has a custom page size, the custom page size will be preserved for anyone viewing the document.

conclusion

If you are going to use a custom page size in Google Docs, it is a good idea to set the size before creating your document. After setting a custom size, it’s a good idea to take a look at the margins as well. Margins can be edited from File> Page Setup. The Page Sizer plugin does not have an option to manage margins. Depending on the paper size you are using for your document, it may be best to set margins before creating your custom page size.
