In Belgium began to turn off the lights on highways to save money
BRUSSELS, September 20 — PRIME. The authorities of the Walloon region of Belgium began to turn off the lights on highways after 22:00 (23.00 Moscow time) to reduce electricity consumption amid the energy crisis in Europe, the regional government said in a statement.
“In the context of the economic crisis, this measure aims to reduce electricity consumption in the Walloon region on the one hand, and on the other hand, it will reduce the costs of the public sector for electricity,” the regional government said in a statement.
At the same time, the authorities promised to keep lighting on dangerous sections of highways, especially at congresses.
It is expected that the savings will be about 400 thousand euros per year.
Earlier it was reported that the Belgian authorities intend to turn off the night lighting of state institutions, reduce heating costs.
