The EC told how long Europe will have enough gas from storage

BRUSSELS, September 20 — PRIME. Underground gas storages (UGS) provide 25-30% of the “blue fuel” consumed in the European Union in the winter, the European Commission’s (EC) Directorate General for Energy says on Twitter.

“Underground gas storages provide 25-30% of the consumed gas in the winter,” it says.

“The gas storage regulation, adopted on June 27, 2022, will help ensure the security of supply, as it requires EU countries to reach a minimum level of 80 percent (gas storage capacity – ed.) by November 1, 2022,” it also notes.

In the European Union, 18 out of 27 countries have UGS facilities. As of September 18, the average filling level of these tanks in the EU as a whole was approximately 86%, in 14 states the threshold of 80% was exceeded, in six of them it was 90%, according to data provided on the website of the Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators of Europe (GIE ).
