MOSCOW, September 9 — PRIME. Italy will replace 13 billion cubic meters of 29 billion cubic meters of Russian gas with LNG, said the country’s Minister for Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani.
The official, during a speech at a meeting of energy ministers of the EU Council, said that Italy was on its way to completely getting rid of Russian gas and had already secured 25 billion cubic meters a year.
“About half will come through the three main pipelines, and 13 billion will be new LNG supplies, for which we will build two new regasifier vessels. They will be ready in early 2023 and early 2024. The progress of new supplies is such that by the winter of 2024 we will “we will be completely independent of Russian gas supplies. Over the past few months, we have reduced purchases from 40% to 18% and will reduce dependence even more in the coming months,” Chingolani said.
The remaining about four billion cubic meters are planned to be saved through the implementation of decarbonization goals, the minister added.
