Lack of Radeon HD 7900 – AMD-exclusive manufacturers get priority

Anyone looking for a Radeon HD 7970 or 7950 may suspect that the supply is not the best, but so far there is no question of a total shortage of graphics cards. For manufacturers and retailers, however, the situation is worrying.

The semiconductor manufacturer TSMC has, for unknown reasons, temporarily stopped the production of circuits at 28 nanometers, which is now having consequences on the market. The Radeon HD 7900 series is particularly affected, but the introduction of the Radeon HD 7870 and 7850 can also be affected.

Due to the lack of graphics processors, AMD has decided to give preference to partner manufacturers that only sell Radeon, such as Sapphire and XFX. The three major Taiwanese manufacturers Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, which also use graphics processors from Nvidia, will thus have to step on their feet.

When it comes to the Radeon HD 7870 and 7850, no graphics cards are yet visible in stores, despite the launch already taking place on March 5. If everything goes according to plan, however, deliveries will start at the end of the month.
