Media: Germany wants to defer gas levy payments to importing companies

BERLIN, Sep 15 – PRIME. The German Ministry of Economy wants to postpone until October 31 the payment of support to gas importers, the source for which will be funds from the gas tax from consumers, the German news agency dpa reports.

“The Minister of Economics (Germany) Robert Habek wants to buy more time in the debate about the controversial gas fee. The first payments on the bills are planned to be postponed to the end of October,” the agency said, citing a draft of the German Ministry of Economics at its disposal.

It is clarified that according to the draft, payments on invoices for October and November 2022 should not be payable until October 31, 2022. Whereas, in accordance with the current legal situation, advance payments could be made as early as September.

The Ministry of Economy of Germany previously announced that it seeks to limit the circle of companies eligible to participate in the support program so that only those enterprises that really need it receive assistance.

In Germany, to support gas importers from October 1 this year until 2024, they will begin to levy the so-called gas levy, the amount of which will be 2.4 euro cents per kilowatt-hour.
