Connecting Chukotka to broadband Internet will take place before the end of this year, this is the last facility that is planned to be connected, said Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Digitalization.
At the end of August, the ministry published a draft resolution, according to which 2023 is the deadline for connecting the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to a fiber optic line with a bandwidth of 100 Gbps.
“This year we are finishing connecting Chukotka to the Internet. This is the last entity that remained on the satellite,” he said.
The construction of the FOCL between Kamchatka and Chukotka is carried out by Rostelecom, the cost of the state contract is 6.9 billion rubles, part of the FOCL (2.2 thousand kilometers) passes under water. This is the largest regional project of the national program “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation”.
At the end of July, the regional government reported that specialists had completed the laying of the Kamchatka-Chukotka FOCL. The construction of a distribution optical network in the territory of the district was started by Rostelecom at the end of last year. New distributive access networks will be built using GPON technology (“optics to the apartment”), the capacity of the future line is 100 Gbit / s.
At the end of July, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko at a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects said that telecom operators can receive preferential loans for connecting apartment buildings to high-speed Internet in cities with a population of more than 100 thousand people, while the equipment must be Russian, and you can post it for free.
