The American brand Motorola was the first to introduce a smartphone based on the Snapdragon 870 7-nanometer single-chip system. As expected, the new Qualcomm mobile processor debuted in the Motorola Edge S. The company is positioning the novelty as an affordable flagship solution.
The Snapdragon 870 chipset was introduced a few days ago. Its main feature is a CPU with a peak frequency of 3.2 GHz, which is a record for a Cortex core. In comparison with the Snapdragon 865, the operating frequency of the Adreno 650 GPU increased to 670 MHz, and the rest of the characteristics remained the same.
Motorola Edge S is equipped with 8-12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. In the initial and advanced versions, the smartphone carries a UFS 3.1 drive with a capacity of 128 GB on board. The volume of internal memory in the top-end configuration is 256 GB. Also announced is support for microSD cards up to 1 TB.
The autonomy of the novelty is answered by a 5000 mAh battery with support for fast charging via USB-C. The power is 20 W. In addition to the symmetrical connector of wired and wireless interfaces, it is worth noting a headphone output, NFC, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.
Despite the fact that the company calls the smartphone a flagship, they decided to save money on the camera. The rear of the Motorola Edge S has three optical modules and a ToF 3D sensor. The main camera has a resolution of 64 megapixels. Aperture – f / 1.7. It can shoot video in 6K UHD format at 30 fps. It also claims support for 4K UHD recording at 60 fps.
The ultra-wide-angle module has a resolution of 16 megapixels. The viewing angle is 121 degrees. Macro distance is from 2.8 cm, and macro zoom is 5x. The third component is a 2-megapixel auxiliary image sensor for blurring the background. The front camera has a resolution of 16 Mp + 8 Mp. The capture angles are 121 degrees and 100 degrees, respectively.
The front panel of Motorola Edge S has a Full HD + IPS display. The matrix has a diagonal of 6.7 inches, an aspect ratio of 21 to 9, a pixel density of 409 pixels per inch and a brightness of 560 nits. The manufacturer claims to support 90 Hz refresh rate and HDR10. The fingerprint scanner is located on the right side. The case has overall dimensions of 168.38 x 73.97 x 9.69 mm and is protected from water according to the IP52 standard.
The price of Motorola Edge S in the 8/128 GB version was $ 310. The Chinese company estimated the 12/128 GB option at $ 370. The cost of the 12/256 GB version was $ 435. The novelty has already gone on sale in China with preinstalled Android 11 operating system and MYUI proprietary firmware in Emerald Light colors.
