DropBit CEO accused of money laundering on darknet

Larry Dean Harmon, CEO of DropBit, has been indicted by US authorities following his arrest on February 6. He is accused of stealing $ 311 million in Bitcoin from darknet transactions.

Federal authorities have charged Harmon with conspiracy to launder money and operate a license-free money transfer business in 2014-2017. Apparently, he would have used the Helix coin-mixing service to wash at least 354,468 bitcoins (worth over $ 311 million at the time). The cryptocurrencies came from the sale of illegal drugs on the AlphaBay darknet market, which was closed in 2017 by authorities.

DropBit crypto wallet is expected to continue to work, as Harmon’s brother and application developers use their own funds to fund their business.
