Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 gets 8 GB of graphics memory and 2,304 CUDA cores

With less than 24 hours left until the consumer launch of Nvidia’s graphics architecture Turing, where hardware-accelerated ray tracing can be found under the hood, many details have been found out in advance. Among these are what are said to be the specifications for the Geforce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, while performance figures are available for an alleged GTX 2060 in 3Dmark.

In a small way cryptic tweet from the well-known Videocardz.com now announces the website that they may have got the specifications for the Geforce RTX 2070, which is expected to replace the popular GTX 1070. The menu has 2304 CUDA cores, corresponding to 22 percent less than the 2,944 pieces that the RTX 2080 is expected equipped with.

The Geforce RTX 2080 is said to be based on the TU104 circuit, which comes with 24 SM clusters and 3,072 CUDA cores in full-scale design. In the usual order, however, a cluster has been deactivated, so that even defective circuits can be sold. If the information is correct, it means that RTX 2070 only has 18 of 24 clusters active, provided that the card is based on the same circuit as its big brother.

Previous information has claimed that the memory bus may also have been scaled down, after which a memory amount of 7 GB GDDR6 has been mentioned. Several sources instead say that RTX 2070, just like RTX 2080, is equipped with 8 GB of memory, which also indicates that both cards will have memory buses of 256 bits.

Whether the card will have the same bandwidth as its larger sibling is unclear, however, not least as Nvidia has previously worked with segmented memory solutions for the Geforce GTX 970. Otherwise, the company may also choose to use lower clocked GDDR6 memory than the 14 GHz that the top models are expected to equip with . In terms of the graphics card’s clock frequencies, these are still unknown.

On August 20, Nvidia will unveil Turing for the consumer market, after which the results may very well be available shortly. In connection with the unveiling, the top models Geforce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti are said to have their sales start, while RTX 2070 and GTX 2060 will reach stores at a later time.
