Nvidia Geforce RTX series “Turing” under SEK 5,000 is delayed until 2019

When Nvidia presented its latest quarterly report, it was, as expected, a positive strong result, which, however, did not live up to expectations and caused the share to plummet. This is due to a lower-than-expected forecast for the fourth quarter of the year, but also as the company is still sitting on large overlays of graphics circuits from the Pascal family.

The reason for the overlays is that the demand for graphics cards for mining cryptocurrencies fell faster than expected. At the same time, Nvidia’s partner did not respond by lowering prices to the extent that the graphics giant believed, which made it difficult to empty the channels on graphics cards in the Geforce GTX 1000 series. Above all, this has affected the middle class and the bestseller GTX 1060.

In connection with the quarterly report, however, it appears that Nvidia is now seeing an end to its overlays. During the fourth quarter of the year, Nvidia plans to stop delivering graphics chips for the middle class based on the Pascal architecture. After that, the company’s partners will probably need a number of months to sell the graphics cards, before the GTX 1000 series can be seen as a closed chapter.

In the autumn, Nvidia launched the architecture Turing, where the big news is support for machine learning for consumers and ray tracing in real time. So far, Turing has only materialized with Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070, which in terms of price have stepped in as a replacement for GTX 1080 and up.

Assuming that Nvidia wants to sell the current stock of graphics circuits based on Pascal, it would take until the beginning of next year before Turing finds graphics cards for less than SEK 5,000. This is also consistent with previous data, which suggested that models under the RTX 2070 will not be released until 2019.
