Nvidia shows performance difference between Geforce RTX 3080 and 2080 Ti in Doom Eternal

The newly unveiled Ampere architecture promises big leaps in performance against the previous generation. For example, during Tuesday’s presentation, Nvidia stated that the Geforce RTX 3080 will deliver double the performance of a Geforce RTX 2080.

During the day, the company has uploaded a video where they compare a Geforce RTX 3080 against the previous generation heavyweights in the form of the much more expensive Geforce RTX 2080 Ti. The video shows performance differences of up to 60 percent when the game is run in 4K UHD with “maximum settings”, while the average difference appears to be slightly lower at 40 to 50 percent.

Adjusted for cost, it is an interesting comparison that shows that the Geforce RTX 3080 looks to be a big step forward to look forward to before the start of sales on September 17 this year. The example below shows a scenario from the video where the Geforce RTX 3080 delivers 169 FPS while the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti delivers 116 FPS, a difference of about 45 percent.

The comparison above demonstrates, for example, that the Geforce RTX 3080 looks to deliver exactly twice as good a price / performance ratio as an RTX 2080 Ti, or 2.4 times better compared to an RTX 2080 Ti Founder’s Edition. It should also be added that the majority of RTX 2080 Ti models in practice cost in line with Founder’s Edition rather than Nvidia’s recommended price for third-party cards.

Thanks to the user @Sienar who was the first to link the video on the forum.

What do you think about the step in performance against the price tags with the Geforce RTX 3000 series? A real step up or less than you hoped for?
