Performance per krona March 2012

With the new AMD Radeon HD 7000 series in almost all relevant price ranges, it’s high time for SweClockers to update the price charts. In the usual order, it is exclusively about the most performance per krona spent, other functions do not fit in simple tables.

As always, prices are a fresh product and there are often sudden changes. As a basis, the cheapest graphics card with the respective graphics processor that is in stock at a larger computer store is used, or alternatively the incoming one. Anyone who finds lower prices can of course use the same method to produce their own values.

Not entirely unexpectedly, it is the flagship Radeon HD 7970 in Crossfire that leads in the performance league, with little brother Radeon HD 7950 notch in the heels. These graphics cards are also performance-leading in single configuration.

In the popular price range around SEK 2,000, the Radeon HD 7850 is the fastest alternative. Last year’s Radeon HD 6950 is not far behind and the Geforce GTX 560 Ti also plays in the same league. The latter, however, costs only about SEK 1,600 including VAT.

Performance per krona

A quick numerical exercise shows that the middle class still rules when it comes to performance per krona. In 1080p resolution, it is the aggressively priced Geforce GTX 560 Ti that gives the most for the money, closely followed by the loyal servants Radeon HD 6850 and 6870.

Among the more performance-oriented models, the new Radeon HD 7800 series shows the front feet in competition with, among others, the Geforce GTX 570. In the same region, there are also several SLI and Crossfire solutions, including the Geforce GTX 560 Ti and Radeon HD 7770.

In the higher resolution 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, the situation is different. Among the graphics cards tested, the Radeon HD 7850 offers by far the most value for money. Other options with a good performance-price ratio are the Radeon HD 6950, Radeon HD 7870 and Geforce GTX 570.

Anyone looking for a new graphics card will, however, get another option in a little over a week. On March 22, Nvidia takes the step to 28 nanometers with the Geforce GTX 680, the first graphics card from the green team that is manufactured with as advanced technology as the award-winning Radeon HD 7000 series. More information about this model will appear on the launch day.
