WARSAW, September 9 — PRIME. Poland is not going to force citizens and businesses to reduce gas consumption, spokesman for the government of the republic Piotr Muller said at a briefing on Friday.
“In Poland, already at the moment, gas consumption has decreased compared to last year. Natural mechanisms are at work here, if we are talking about enterprises and households,” Muller said.
“In this regard, we do not plan regulation in this part, if we are talking about, so to speak, coercive measures,” he added.
At the same time, he said that the Polish government is working on developing mechanisms to stimulate gas savings. “If we are talking about incentive mechanisms, not prohibitive ones, then we are working on them,” the spokesman said.
On April 27, Gazprom suspended gas exports by the Polish PGNiG due to non-payment for deliveries under the new scheme in rubles. Poland previously received from Russia up to 10 billion gas per year through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline. The country’s authorities hope to compensate for this volume with the help of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline from the Norwegian shelf through Denmark.
