Powercolor overclockes the Radeon HD 7970 Vortex II to 1,100 MHz

While the newly launched Geforce GTX 680 steals most of the attention, AMD’s partner manufacturers are filing on new models that will face the new competition. One of these is Powercolor, which will soon present the Radeon HD 7970 Vortex II Edition.

This time, Powercolor takes the opportunity to scare up the clock frequencies to unimaginable heights. The graphics processor is overclocked to a full 1,100 MHz while the memory is boosted to 5,700 MHz GDDR5. It can be compared with the reference model 925 and 5 500 MHz respectively.

More details are a really large cooler with three heat pipes and dual fans, protective aluminum cover plate, 3 GB GDDR5 memory and outputs for dual DVI, an HDMI 1.4a and two Displayport 1.2.

The official launch of the Powercolor Radeon HD 7970 Vortex II Edition will take place sometime in April. Some price information is not yet known.
