PowerPoint failed to type in Microsoft Word while creating booklets in Windows 10/11

PowerPoint users have reported seeing an error message “Powerpoint could not write in Microsoft Word” every time they try to create handouts in PowerPoint. In this article, we have discussed the solutions that have helped the users facing this error to overcome it.

Solution 1: update Windows to the latest version

1. Press Windows y R keys simultaneously to open To run.

2. Type ms-settings: windowsupdate-action to open the windows update.

3. Click Search for updates to see if there are any more recent updates for your version of Windows.

4. Wait for the update process to complete.

5. Restart your PC and check if the error when creating handouts in PowerPoint is resolved.

Solution 2: update MS Office

1. Open the PowerPoint file.

2. Go to Proceedings menu.

3. Choose Bill in the list of options on the left.

4. On the right side, click Upgrade options.

5. In the drop-down menu, select the option Update now.

6. Restart your PC after Office update completes. Check if the above problem with PowerPoint is fixed.

Fix 3 – Open in Safe Mode

1. Find the shortcut for PowerPoint on your system.

2. Hold down the CONTROL and then click on the PowerPoint shortcut.

3. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click on Yes to enter safe mode.

4. PowerPoint will now open in safe mode. Open the file you found the error with and check if you can create booklets now.

Solution 4: open Word before export operation

Users have sometimes found that keeping Word open before exporting the PowerPoint file has helped them solve this problem. This happens due to the communication problem between PowerShell and Word when they are from different installations of Office.

1. Open Word and wait until it opens. No document needs to be opened, just the Word process should be running.

2. Go to PowerPoint and open the file that gives the error.

3. Now try creating the brochure with the To export tab. Click on Create brochures and select Create brochures.

4. Since the Word process is already running, you should no longer see the error.

Solution 5: clear PowerPoint temporary folders

1. End all running Word and PowerPoint processes.

2. Open Ejecutar (Windows + R). Writes cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open Symbol of the system with administrator privileges.

3. Type the following command to go to the first Temp folder.

CD %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet FilesContent.MSO

a. Now write DELETE *. * and hit Get into. Writes AND to continue deleting the contents of the selected folder.

B. Type the command below to finish the removal

FOR /f %s in ('dir /b/a') do rd /s/q %s

6. Copy and paste the following command to navigate to the next folder to be deleted.

CD %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet FilesContent.Word

a. Once you are inside the correct directory type DELETE *. * and write AND to confirm the removal process.

B. Use the following command to complete the removal.

FOR /f %s in ('dir /b/a') do rd /s/q %s

7. Restart your computer. After startup, open the problem PowerPoint file and check whether the problem with booklet making is fixed or not.

Solution 6: modify the saving options to save presentations locally

1. Start the PowerPoint application (no need to open the problem file).

2. Go to Proceedings menu.

3. select Choices in the vertical menu at the bottom.

4. In the PowerPoint options window, click the Save money tab.

5. On the right side, tick the box next to the option Save to computer by default at Save presentations group.

6. Click OK.

7. Relaunch PowerPoint and open the problematic presentation. Now check if you can make the export option to create booklets.

Solution 7: change the location of the PowerPoint file

1. Press Windows + E to open File Browser.

2. Go to This PC and then to root directory (C 🙂 of your operating system.

3. The right button of the mouse and select New -> Folder to create a new folder on drive C. Give it a name like PPT_Handouts.

4. To close any open PowerPoint file.

5. Copy and paste the file that gives the error to this new folder created under the root (C :).

6. Now open this file and try creating brochures using the Export option in PowerPoint.

Solution 8: break your presentation into smaller parts

Users have suggested that dividing the presentation into smaller parts before creating booklets has helped to solve the problem in cases where it is a large file in terms of the number of slides and resources it contains.

1. Share the problematic presentation in smaller presentations.

2. Create brochures for these individual presentations (part of the main file).

Note: When creating brochures, once you see the Submit to Microsoft Word dialog box, be sure to select the option Paste the link below Add slides to Microsoft Word document before clicking OK.

3. Recombina the different Word files in a single file.

This should have helped you get over the error completely.

Fix 9 – Repair Office

1. Open To run using the Windows y R key combination.

2. Type appwiz.cpl to open the Programs and characteristics.

3. Find the office installation you want to repair.

4. The right button of the mouse on it and click on the Change option.

5. Select the option Quick repair and then click Repair.

6. In the confirmation window, click Repair.

7. Restart your system once the repair process is complete. Check if this has helped you solve the problem.

8. If the error still persists, then repeat Steps 1 – 4 above.

9. Now select the option Online repair and click Repair.

10. Confirm the repair process by clicking Repair again.

11. After the repair is complete, restart your computer. Launch PowerPoint and check if the error has been resolved.
