After Thursday’s launch of the Radeon R9 290X, it is clear that the latest addition not only competes against the Geforce GTX 780 but also performs better than the GTX Titan, which means that the red team can now boast the world’s fastest graphics processor for games. At the same time, the newcomer is significantly lower priced than Nvidia’s monster model.
However, not everything is gold and green forests. In SweClocker’s review, the reference model of the Radeon R9 290X was criticized for being both loud and hot, disadvantages that can mainly be traced to the substandard reference cooler. This can hopefully be corrected in the partner manufacturers’ tailor-made models.
Sources at SweClockers now state that AMD has not yet begun deliveries of the Hawaii XT graphics processor to partner manufacturers. This means that it will take at least six weeks before the first tailor-made models appear on the market. This is also confirmed by AMD, which expects these to arrive at the end of the fourth quarter of the year.

At the same time, it is clear that there is also a shortage of reference models. The first delivery is almost sold out and most graphics cards went to customers who pre-booked the Radeon R9 290X with Battlefield 4. The next shipment is expected to arrive within the next two weeks.
