Radeon R9 290X performance test in Crossfire and with different fan profiles

The launch of the Radeon R9 290X will take place soon and new information is hailed close to the wide web. It has previously leaked results with a single graphics card, but now figures also appear with two Radeon R9 290X in Crossfire and a single with different fan profiles.

The table above is taken from AMD’s official Reviewers Guide and is supplemented by Videocardz, which is said to have access to the PDF file. The results show that the scaling with two graphics cards is often over 90 percent while the exceptions are Metro: Last Light, Bioshock Infinite and Saints Row IV, which is closer to 80 percent. The results are taken in the resolution 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and varying settings.

Radeon R9 290X and R9 290 both come with a new solution for Crossfire. Instead of the traditional Crossfire bridge, the graphics cards are connected directly over the PCI Express bus without any extra cabling. Among other things, the technology will work better with Frame Pacing, which is there to provide smoother rendering times, and not cause any loss of performance compared to the traditional bridge.

Radeon R9 290X comes with two different fan profiles there About fashion is louder and results in higher performance while Quiet Mode do the opposite. The results show in many cases extremely marginal differences where Uber Mode gives an average of 1.54 percent higher performance. There are exceptional cases, where the clearest example is Far Cry 3 with an increase of 8.77 percent with the higher fan speed.

The launch of the Radeon R9 290X is expected to take place on October 24 and is priced to compete with the Geforce GTX 780.
