Return of excise tax on fuel: how prices at gas stations will react

The increase in excise tax will be due to the profits of traders – The return of the excise tax on fuel is the right initiative in a war. At the same time, the proposed rate – 100 euros per 1000 liters – will generally have little effect on prices for consumers. This was announced by an analyst of the consulting company “NEFTERYNOK” Alexander Sirenko.

“The price of gas stations includes the excess profit of traders. Retail operators received about $800 per ton. This is about UAH 20 per liter of gasoline, diesel. It would be logical to send it to the state budget,” he said.

According to Sirenko, the government made a mistake by zeroing the excise tax in March.

“Low prices were not expected. The cost did not decrease by the body of taxes. So, if the price was 9-12 UAH of taxes, then in general the price of fuel decreased only by 5-6 UAH. Those who sell fuel simply took the difference “, adds the expert.

According to him, the reasons for this situation in the market may be the incompetence of personnel in the government or corruption.

How the new excise tax will affect gas station prices

Alexander Sirenko believes that a car enthusiast who will refuel with diesel or gasoline will not feel the introduction of an excise tax of 100 euros per 1000 liters.

The situation is somewhat different with liquefied gas.

“Liquefied gas is not regulated, there are more players in this market, competition is higher. At the same time, the margin is low. With the introduction of excise tax, the retail price will increase, but not significantly – by a couple of hryvnias,” the specialist notes.

Earlier, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada failed to vote on the inclusion of bill No. 7668, which proposes the return of excise taxes on fuel. The government’s initiative will be resubmitted to the Finance Committee on August 29. The government plans to use the accumulated funds to repair roads and bridges.
