MOSCOW, September 5 – PRIME. Oil and gas fields of unique size in Russia can be discovered on the Arctic shelf and in Western Siberia, but there will be no such giants as the Samotlor field, head of Rosnedra Evgeny Petrov told RIA Novosti on the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum (VEF).

“Definitely yes, of the large obvious ones, of course, this is the (Arctic – ed.) shelf, and on land it is Western Siberia, deeper deposits … Triassic. This is a matter of additional study. Well, of course, there will be no giants like Samotlor , but there may also be large deposits,” the head of the department said, answering the question of whether Russia has the potential to discover oil and gas fields of unique size.
Fields with reserves of more than 300 million tons of oil or 500 billion cubic meters of gas are considered unique.
So far, the Samotlor field remains the largest in Russia. The current recoverable reserves of the oil giant are about 1 billion tons of oil.
