RTX 3080 Ti Gigabyte Eagle Review vs. Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3080 | Reviews| Reviews
Nvidia recently unveiled a new gaming flagship, the RTX 3080 Ti. This video card boasts 12 gigabytes of video memory of the GDDR6x standard. This fills the gap between the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090, diffin the amount of video memory which is an impressive 14 GB. It is worth noting that the founder of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, positioned the RTX 3080 as an excellent replacement for the GTX 1080 Ti, but many could be confused by the fact that the new RTX 3080, despite its impressive performance, still has a more modest amount of video memory (10 GB versus 11 GB) than the 2017 graphics card. But video memory is not the only change that has been made. The video card received more CUDA cores, texture units, ROP cores and other ingredients, except that the frequency of the chip became slightlywow below.
Appearance and characteristics
It’s time to take a look at our today’s heroes, represented by the RTX 3080 Gigabyte Gaming OC, and the RTX 3080 Ti Gagabyte Eagle. The Eagle version is the youngest in the line from Gagabyte, while the Gaming version is one line higher.
At first glance, video cards are not much different, but there are still differences. If you look closely, you will notice slight differences in the design of video cards, but the overall structure is almost identical. The older version, called Gaming, has a backlight for the “Gigabyte” inscription on the side of the video card, while the Eagle version has only a small backlight on the side of the video card coolers.
In this table, the main characteristics of the models under consideration are presented:
RTX 3080 Gaming OC | RTX 3080 Ti Eagle | |
Core frequency | 1800 MHz | 1665 MHz |
Number of CUDA cores | 8704 | 10240 |
Video memory frequency | 19000 MHz | 19000 MHz |
Video memory size | 10 GB | 12 GB |
Video memory type | GDDR6X | GDDR6X |
Bus width | 320 bit | 384 bit |
Video memory bandwidth | 760 GB/s | 912 GB/s |
Dimensions (edit) | L = 320 W = 129 H = 55 mm | L = 320 W = 128 H = 56 mm |
It is worth paying attention to the core frequencies, which differ significantly in favor of the younger model. During load, the real values, as a rule, do not correspond to the frequencies from the specification, if possible, the video card will increase them, and this increase will already depend on the temperature of the video card core, the supplied voltage, and power limitations.
Test configuration
After we got acquainted with the main characteristics, it’s time to move on to the test configuration:
Корпус: Fractal Design MESHIFY 2 XL
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Z490 Pro AX
Processor: Intel Core i7 10700k (clocked at 5.1 Ghz across all cores)
CPU cooling: NZXT Kraken x62
Graphics card 1: RTX 3080 Gigabyte Gaming OC 10 Gb
Graphics card 2: RTX 3080 Ti Gigabyte Eagle 12 Gb
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY Black DDR4 2×16 Gb 3600 MHz (16-20-20-36)
Storage: Samsung 970 EVO M.2 1 Tb
Power supply: Corsair HX 1000W
The video cards were tested at factory settings, without additional overclocking.
Tests in games
All tests were carried out at 2560×1440. The first game for today is Cyberpunk 2077, the graphics settings are maximum, the best tracing is on, DLSS is the quality level.
The difference in performance was about 6%, both in minimum and average fps.
The next game in the Control test. Graphics settings are at their maximum, ray tracing and DLSS are enabled.
The performance gain was 8% for the average fps, and 9.5% for the minimum.
Further Metro Exodus. Maximum graphics settings, ray tracing and DLSS are enabled.
The increase in average fps was almost 14%, and in the minimum increase slightly exceeded 50%.
Next Red Dead Redemption 2, maximum graphics settings, tree tessellation disabled, TAA and FXAA anti-aliasing was used.
The average fps gain is only about 1.5%, and about 28% at the minimum.
conclusions
As we can see, the RTX 3080 Ti as a whole was not much faster on average, only in some cases we can talk about a significant increase in performance. It is worth noting the increased amount of video memory, which can be very much, by the way, in high resolutions. Speaking specifically about the RTX 3080 Ti Gagabyte Eagle model, it can be noted that the video card cannot boast of an impressive appearance, and has a very modest tint, which is barely noticeable. The cooling system is also not the most efficient, so the performance among the 3080 Ti models is far from being a record. But even in spite of this, this video card can provide an impressive level of performance in modern games, at maximum graphics settings, which will fully satisfy the needs of the most demanding gamers.
