Russia ranks third in terms of gas supplies to Spain

MADRID, 10 Oct – PRIME. In September, Russia moved from fifth to third place in terms of gas supplies to Spain, only Algeria and the United States, which are traditionally the largest exporters to the kingdom, rank above it. This is evidenced by the data of the Spanish energy company Enagas.

Spain imported 5,355 gigawatt-hours of gas from Russia in September, representing 15.2% of the kingdom’s total purchases (35,225 GWh), according to the firm.

According to Enagas, from January to September 2022, the kingdom’s imports of Russian gas increased by 30% compared to the same period last year.

Algeria exported 8,931 GWh (25.4% of the total) to Spain, of which 7,962 GWh came via the Medgaz gas pipeline, and another 969 GWh by sea in the form of liquefied natural gas. 6,012 GWh arrived from the US (17.1% of the total).

Spain is one of the EU countries with the widest list of natural gas suppliers. According to the EpData information platform created by Europa Press, among the traditional gas exporters to the kingdom are Algeria, the United States, France, Russia, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Norway, Qatar, Trinidad and Tobago.
