Software reveals new Geforce RTX card – can be Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Super

Ahead of this summer’s launch of Nvidia’s Super upgrades to the Geforce RTX 2000 family’s graphics card, there was speculation that the upgrades would be topped by a Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Super. The launch of the new graphics cards passed without any announcement of an RTX 2080 Ti Super.

However, the latest beta version of the AIDA64 software has received support for a new graphics card that could be the Ti model in the Super family. The new card is based on the TU102 circuit, which in addition to the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti also forms the basis for the cards in the Quadro RTX 6000 and RTX 8000 series and Titan RTX.

* Values apply to Nvidia’s Founders Edition of each model, which comes with 90 MHz overclocking. In addition to slightly higher performance, this in all cases leads to an increase in TDP of 10 W.

The information in the software indicates the name Nvidia Geforce RTX T10-8, which excludes that these are new products in the Quadro or Titan families. Since the Geforce family’s current flagship RTX 2080 Ti is equipped with a slightly scaled-down variant of the TU102 circuit housed in the Titan RTX, a Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Super should reasonably be a complete version of the same circuit.

The features that would probably not come with a Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Super are the 384-bit wide memory bus and the 24 GB GDDR6 memory in the Titan RTX. The current Geforce RTX 2080 Ti is equipped with a 352-bit wide memory bus and 11 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a Super variant of this graphics card could potentially increase the amount of memory slightly compared to the model it replaces.

The graphics memory’s clock frequencies would probably also increase from the bandwidth of 15.5 Gb / s in the Geforce RTX 2080 Super to 16 Gb / s that the full-size TU102 has the capacity for. Slightly expanded and faster graphics memory would probably be paired with slightly higher clock frequencies for the cards’ CUDA, Tensor and RT units.

However, this information should be read with a pinch of skepticism as Nvidia during an E3 review before the unveiling of the Geforce RTX Super series definitely denied such a model. When asked if the Super Series would be rounded off with a Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Super, the answer from Nvidia’s representative was simply “no”.

What could possibly lead Nvidia to revise previous plans is information that AMD is preparing a performance card with a Navi 23 circuit and support for ray tracing, which is said to be launched towards mid-June 2020. AMD has in talks with investors confirmed that the company is working on more high-performing members of the Navi family.

It remains to be seen whether Nvidia actually plans to supplement the Super family with a variant of the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, and when such a graphics card would be launched in that case.
